This course is intended for licensed healthcare practitioners or supervised trainers. If you are new to neurofeedback, or to the method presented in this course (known as the "Othmer Method"), we strongly encourage you to begin your work in this neurofeedback approach under the supervision of an experienced practitioner who has completed this training and certification. Additionally you may choose to participate in one of the practicum weekends or summit events held at regular intervals by EEG Info. Attendees at our live courses and viewers of this class at home who intend to practice sessions under the supervision of an experienced neurofeedback practitioner will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on practicum to gain the necessary skills to provide neurofeedback in a clinical setting. Neurofeedback training has been used in connection with a variety of conditions that appear to be associated with disregulation of brain activity. This includes but is not limited to: remediation of attention deficits and hyperactivity, recovery from some of the consequences of brain injury, and the reduction of incidence and severity of seizures.
The clinical staff and training course instructors at EEG Info include both licensed/certified and non-licensed/non-certified personnel with expertise in various health-related professions; they are not physicians. They are aware, through literature and experience in a clinical setting, of beneficial effects of the kind of neurofeedback they offer. Scientific investigation is ongoing to determine the mechanism by which these benefits are achieved. At present, EEG Info recommends the training on the basis of empirical observations of improvement in clients with similar conditions.
During the training it is expected that you will experience changes in symptoms relating to the regulation of the nervous system. Your experience may include increase or decrease in any of the following: awake state, sleep, headaches, light sensitivity, mood, and any of the symptoms you experience during daily life, including any of those discussed during this training course.
Changes in a positive or negative direction of any symptoms you may experience during the sessions are a valuable tool for finding the proper training sites and frequency, and will help you understand better how to work with your clients when they report negative or positive symptoms to you as their clinician.
Your Responsibility: You must report your changes to your supervising clinician. If you fail to mention negative symptoms when they arrive, or purposefully adjust the training with the intent of increasing negative symptoms, the outcome, while not shown to be lasting, can be extremely negative in the short term.
The training appears to be a harmless procedure in the long term as far as is known at present. It is a non-invasive procedure and no injuries are known in the experience of EEG Info, or in the literature reviewed. Nevertheless, beyond this, EEG Info does not make any representation concerning the safety or efficacy of training. It is the attendee's responsibility to monitor the subjective effects of training and to continue training so long as benefit is perceived.
By accessing and using this course, you acknowledge your understanding of the principles set forth here, and waive any claim of damages due to the training, including worsening of the conditions you may have, claimed side effects, or the failure to improve with training. In addition, you agree to take full responsibility for your training, the benefit of such training, or the lack thereof, and further agree to hold EEG Info harmless from all claims associated with such training.
